The von Trapp Lodge
During a two-day visit to Stowe, Vermont, I purposely awoke very early in the morning so I could set out to get some sunrise photos. As I traveled about the area, searching for a place that was high enough up so I could capture a spectacular view, I stumbled across the von Trapp Lodge. For those of you not familiar with the history behind this lodge, you can learn more here.
This photo was taken around 8:00am, which was about 45 minutes after the sun had risen. I did actually capture the sunrise in some of the other shots I took, which I’ll be posting to this site shortly. As I was packing things up, I had to walk across the street back to my car and as I looked to the right, I saw the view you see in todays photo. I loved the way the road curved about and seemed to disappear over the horizon.

Sawyer Glaciers in the Tracy Arm Fjord
Spectacular, yes? This is one of my favorite shots and I’m sure you can see why. I took this glacier photo during a 7-day Alaskan cruise with my family towards the end of May, 2010.
These are the “Sawyer Glaciers” and are located at the end of the Tracy Arm Fjord, which is a 35-mile long stretch of ocean with 3000 foot high granite walls along both sides. This fjord travels through the Tongass National Forest, although I don’t remember seeing too many trees… Mostly just rocks and waterfalls.
